She's Gone!

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 29 Juli 2011 0 komentar

So, the other day I spent some time loading photos of some more of my items from my workshop onto my online Etsy shop.  So, I put up this mermaid treasure box and a few minutes went back to edit something - and the entry was gone.   Disappeared!

Knowing
me and my "love/hate affair" with my computer. . . who knows.   Well, guess what? Apparently, someone snatched it up within
minutes! SO . . . Below is my little creation first along
with its description.  After that, I will post some other simply adorable Mermaid boxes that are out there available on the Etsy market.   In the meantime, I am looking for more tiny mermaid figurines!

"What would I give If I could live    Outta these waters?

What would I pay To spend a day    Warm on the sand?

Betcha on land They understand     Bet they don't reprimand their daughters. . .

Up where they walk - Up where they run

Up where they stay all day in the sun

Wanderin' free - Wish I could be  Part of that world."

~ Little Mermaid

A perfect jewelry box for your littlest Mermaid.

This tiny porcelain Mermaid sits atop her treasure box amidst a world of seashells.

Next to her, on a funky pink sea sponge, lays a miniature starfish.

This is an up-cycled & re-purposed piece.

How could I say no to this charming hand-painted tiny dresser I found?

And then literally, moments later I met up with this tiniest of mermaids.

. . . It just had to be this creation!

I repainted the inside of the two tiny drawers in a hot pink.

However, I just couldn't change the hand-painted detail on the outside of the box.

This tiny mermaid dresser measures: 10" tall x 6" wide and about 3" deep.

The seashells and especially the starfish are very delicate.

SANDY BEACH SEA DEBRIS: FINDINGS ON THE SEASHORE

“Don't grow up too quickly,
lest you forget how much you love the beach.”
~ Michelle Held

Here is some "Sea Debris" along with
the beauty of Nature that we found
on the beach in an afternoon walk.
A tiny green bit of sea glass

A blue translucent jelly fish trapped on the shore.

There are not too many on the beach yet.  Summer's little menace!

THE FIND OF THE DAY! These are not common here.
Size comparison. Little Beauty!

Anybody lose their registration? Good 'til next March!

Another funky little shell. . . . Necklace?  (Yikes who is the 8 month pregnant looking person in the
shadow?)  I guess that is what I get for carrying all my stuff around like a homeless beach bum.....

Osprey on a fence post.

Low cruisin' pelicans

In flight.

A tiny fish feeding frenzy at Russ' feet.

Bird walk.

Another shot of the osprey before he heads off into the sunset.

At least take a bucket so the kids won't laugh at you."

Thrift store Capris made into a skirt....

Posted by Unknown Senin, 11 Juli 2011 0 komentar
Here are my $2.00 Capris that I bought at the Goodwill store. They fit really weird in that the seam around the upper leg was super tight. Otherwise they were great and had tons of cool pockets and detailing. I had to make them work for me! So I decided to revamp them (upcycle, repurpose...call it what you may) into a summer skirt.
First step was to cut off the legs at the funky tight seam.

Next step was to remove the crotch seam in order to make into a skirt.

Removing the fabric that formed the capri's "crotch".
Next, I opened up each leg at the inner seam. And placed each as the front and back of the new skirt. Notice that I left the extra fabric to fill in the V formed from removing the crotch seam of the capris in order to create the skirt.

The back needed some "patchwork-ing" in order to fill in all the areas.

The funky leg pocket from the capris is reused as a front pocket on the skirt. (This also covers over a weird area where the crotch seam and zipper didn't look quite right). And makes for a useful lipstick pocket! ...Ha!

Front view of finished new skirt.
Back side..... (sorry about that... Nobody should photograph a butt exactly.)   'But', here is the view of the finished skirt.

Side view shows how the old capris had a drawstring at each leg which was incorporated into each side of the skirt creating a tiny side walking "slit".

So there you go!
A pretty quick, easy and fun project! I have since made several more of these.
You can do it too!

Or, if you are a local... I can remake your old capris into a fun summer skirt!
